“My Kindergarten” by Rosemary Wells

My Kindergarten by Rosemary Wells weaves an abundance of content into her book including everything from math, holidays, science, music, language, art, geography to information about one’s community. Wells’ picture book incorporates everything that kindergartner Emily will learn in his or her first year of school, as it teaches the reader countless tidbits of information. Now don’t be fooled, this picture book is far from boring and dry; Wells uses narrator Emily’s fun class explorations as a way to teach us all how dynamic our kindergarten classrooms can be. Not only does Emily describe her class interactions, but she shares her fun class rhymes and illustrations that most kindergartners can relate to. This makes the text a fun and interesting read. Wells takes the reader chronologically through the school year, sharing the lessons that coincide with each season. With activities that range from square dancing to weather watching, this book is sure to grab a student’s attention with its visually stimulating illustrations and content.

Happy Reading,
