What if the Shark Wears Tennis Shoes? by Winifred Morris and illustrated by Betsy Lewin

Standard

Stephen’s imagination runs wild in What if the Shark Wears Tennis Shoes by Winifred Morris. As his mom tucks him into bed one night Stephen wonders…

“What if a shark comes?”

“What if he eats me?”

Stephen’s mom assures him that it is impossible because sharks live in the ocean. But Stephen responds….

“You don’t know everything.”

“What if just one shark got tired of living in the ocean? And what if he’s going to come here tonight?”

And his imagination runs wild from there! His mom tells him that they live far from the ocean.

But Stephen wonders…

“What if he hitchhikes?”

Stephen imagines all sorts of ways that a shark could get to his house and into his room. And sure enough one particular shark makes it all the way to Stephen’s bedroom from the ocean. Does Stephen get eaten? Or does Stephen’s imagination conjure up a way to safe his life?
