A lion in the library? For Free Choice Friday, I chose to review Library Lion written by Michelle Knudsen and illustrated by Kevin Hawkes. This book is about a lion who decides to start visiting the library for storybook time. The head librarian, Miss Merriweather, loves rules and believes that there are no excuses for breaking the rules. When she is told that there is a lion in the library, she lets him stay because he is not breaking any rules. The lion becomes a part of the library, helping Miss Merriweather and the children while he waits for story time. But one day, the lion breaks the rules. Read this great book to find out what happens when the lion breaks the rules!
I think that this is a great book for young children. It tells a sweet story about times that it can be acceptable to break the rules, as long as you are doing so to help someone out. The illustrations are beautifully done and help bring the story to life. This book is recommended for children from preschool to third grade, and will make an excellent addition to both home and school libraries!
